What is the difference between cold dryer and suction dryer

2026-04-13Views:

Cold dryer and suction dryer are two different kinds of compressed air drying equipment, there are several main differences between them:

working principle:

the cold dryer works according to the principle of freezing and dehumidification. By exchanging heat between compressed air and refrigerant, it is cooled to a certain dew point temperature, thereby precipitating water and achieving the purpose of drying.

The suction dryer is based on the principle of pressure swing adsorption, the use of desiccant adsorption of moisture in the compressed air, so as to achieve the effect of deep drying.

Water removal effect:

the cold dryer is limited by the working principle, and its dew point temperature is usually maintained at 2~10 ℃, so its water removal effect is relatively limited.

Due to the use of desiccant for deep drying, the dew point temperature of the outlet can reach below -20 ℃, and the water removal effect is more significant.

Energy loss:

the cold dryer needs to work through the refrigerant compression to achieve the cooling purpose, so it needs a higher power supply, and the energy loss is relatively large.

The suction dryer is mainly controlled by the electric control box, and the power supply is low, so the power loss is less.

Gas loss:

the cold dryer has no air loss during the working process, because it removes water through temperature change, and the automatic drain will discharge the generated water.

The dryer needs to be regenerated after the desiccant is saturated with water, so there will be a certain loss of regeneration gas, usually about 12-15%.

Failure rate:

the cold dryer is composed of three systems: refrigerant, air and electrical, and the components are relatively complex, so the failure rate is relatively high.

The structure of the suction dryer is relatively simple, and the main fault may come from the valve that needs frequent action, so its failure rate is usually lower than that of the cold dryer.

In summary, there are significant differences between the cold dryer and the suction dryer in terms of working principle, water removal effect, energy loss, gas loss and failure rate. Which device to choose depends on the specific application requirements and scenarios.
