Application Notes
Electronics and semiconductor manufacturing places high demands on production environments and utility stability. Compressed air can be used for equipment actuation, wafer and component manufacturing support, packaging, blow-off, and instrument control. Fluctuations in air quality may affect equipment reliability and process stability.
The system should control oil, water, particulates, and supply-pressure fluctuations, and provide air storage, air treatment, monitoring, and necessary redundancy according to the continuous-operation requirements of critical equipment. Specific cleanliness levels should follow process-equipment requirements.
Selection & Operating Considerations
- Critical production equipment should account for supply-pressure fluctuations and instantaneous flow changes, using air storage and redundancy where necessary to improve stability.
- Compressed air used in clean areas should control oil, water, and particulates according to process-equipment requirements and minimize the risk of secondary contamination in the piping network.
- Compressor-room heat dissipation, air-treatment capacity, and monitoring-point layout should match the long-term continuous operating load.
